My puppy was dewormed for worms, hasn't pooped in 24 hrs. Obstruction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | 3 months and 14 days old

We recently adopted a puppy, she threw up worms the first morning we had her. Obviously roundworms, contacted the folks who are fostering. They had dewormed her when they first got her, and I'm about a month it passed. I'm gathering she was reinfecting herself. I gave her a dose of Sentry DS. She's had a couple of bowel movement since then, but has not pooped in over 24 hours right now. Should I be worried about an obstruction?

IF she is eating and playful with no vomiting, then I would not worry about an obstruction at this point. She may not have reinfected herself, she may have had a high worm burden and the first round of medicine just did not get all of them. She should be checked in a week to see if there are any left to see a dewormer will need to be repeated.

All puppies have worms. All of them. It is rare to actually see them in the stools so when you do, it is usually because they have a heavy burden. A puppy should be dewormed every time they get their vaccines and then once a month with their heartworm prevention for life. Don't worry about it right now as the worms are dying. Just make sure she gets dewormed again at her next vaccine appointment.
