Alaskan Malamute bald behind ears, sore dry skin. What's the cause?

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 1 month old

My Alaskan malamute seems to have gone bald behind the ears. The skin looks sore and the fur is dry around the area however it doesnt seem to be bothing her. Do you know what it is? I dont have any photos as its difficukt to get them at the moment. I can when she is sleeping

This can be from a food allergy or an ear infection. It is a common location for some breeds to have thinning hair but malamutes typically aren't one of them. The best thing to do is try to clean the area with soap and water since it seems inflamed and you can apply cortisone cream to help. Monitor for any shaking of the head or scratching her ears. I would have the area checked by your vet since it look sore when you can.
