Why does my cat only like me and avoid other people? Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 7.5 lbs

My kitty doesn’t like to be touched or held by anyone except me she cries and screams and makes all these noises whenever anybody bothers her but me! Why? We’ve had her since she was a baby kitten so why doesn’t she love the whole family? I feel she has emotional problems and she only feels safe and secure with me “her mama” why do you think she’s like this??? Should I worry?? She doesn’t even like the other animals except my lil poodle Paris. She’s a lover to me kisses me all the time.

Some cats are just 'one person cats' meaning they naturally don't care for anyone other than 'their' person. This sounds like Lourdes personality to me! There are dogs (and probably humans) just like this as well. I would not worry about it as long as you are ok with the situation. Please post again if you have any further questions!
