Can finches and budgies safely eat green chiretta leaves and fruit?

Bengal gram is also known as chickpea or garbanzo beans. This legume is safe to feed, however I can find no reference regarding the leaves. In certain cases, the leave or stems of a plant can be toxic while the "fruit" is not. For this reason, as well as not finding a concrete reference either way, I would not recommend feeding the leaves to Coco.

Lettuce can cause some digestive upset in birds and runny stool. I would recommend feeding fresh fruits and other veggies (like zucchini, carrots, and peppers) instead. It could be that Tweety just isn't used to apple yet. I would keep offering it to see if she starts to like it. Other veggies such as salad greens, strawberries, broccoli, etc may be fun for her to try out. Remove any uneaten food daily to avoid spoiling.

A commercial pelleted diet is balanced, healthy and convenient. They can be found in most pet stores or online. Quality brands include Harrison's, Roudybush, Lafeber and Pretty Bird. You can supplement the diet with a small amount of a fortified seed mix, fresh greens and vegetables, cooked grains/beans/pastas and plain rice. Budgies and other birds also enjoy some scrambled egg occasionally.

Both can eat dark, leafy greens. Vegetables such as squash, peppers, peas, carrots and corn can also be offered. Cooked is fine, raw is healthier. Fruits should be offered sparingly to both species to prevent loose droppings. Apples, pears, banana, mango, grapes and peaches are all acceptable. Be sure to remove pits or seeds.

I would not recommend feeding either of these products to degus, as they can lead to dental disease and gastrointestinal distress. Degus are meant to have a high fiber, low nutrient diet, so the majority of their diet should be hay. You can also provide them with a small amount (approximately 1 tablespoon/degu/day) of chinchilla pellets, which are typically alfalfa based. In addition to this, you can also add dark leafy greens (approximately 1 cup/degu/day). Examples of these include leaf lettuces, cilantro, parsley, arugula, dandelion greens. If your budgies are actively eating on their own you can offer some vegetables and sprouts to them in small amounts, however make sure it doesn't make up the bulk of their diet. They should still be on a regular balanced budgie diet to ensure they stay healthy and growing.
