Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I'm a student and need to ask a vet ten questions. Whats the best part about your job? Can your job get stressful at times? How so? What's your favorite animal to work with? Is there ever a time that you don't enjoy your job? What or who inspired you to work with animals? Was there ever a time you just wanted to quit? Is your job what you expected it to be? Is there anything you dislike about your job? What makes a good veterinarian? What do you think a veterinarian role is in the com

1) Best part of the job is helping make an animal feel better after the owner has lost hope. 2) This job can be very stressful at times. You have to deal with emergencies, well visits, different species, and pet owners who are understandably emotional. You have to know how to do surgery and deal with potential complications. You have to deal with stressful situations like euthanasias. Student loans for veterinary school are extremely high and most veterinary salaries are too low to pay off loans quickly or at all. 3) Dogs 4) I don't enjoy my job when there is a very sick animal and the owners are unable to pursue treatment. 5) I've worked with a few very good veterinarians that inspired me to become a veterinarian 6) Some days are tough but I've never wanted to totally quit 7) Being unable to pay off loans and only being able to live paycheck to paycheck was not expected 8) I dislike the stress associated with owners financial concerns and the stress of surgery. 9) A good veterinarian should be a good communicator and compassionate. They will need to be a hard worker 10) A veterinarian should work to educate the community on the importance of pet health care and risks to the general population. They should take care of companion and food animals to prevent animal disease and the possibility of human disease.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What I like the most about my career is being able to help pets in need and support owners through that process. Veterinary medicine is very interesting because of how broad the field is and how much you learn on a daily basis. Anyone interested in becoming a veterinarian should start by getting more experience in the profession by shadowing a veterinarian and also studying very hard and making an effort to learn and get good grades. The most difficult aspect of becoming a veterinarian is continuing to do well in schools which can be quite hard and also being able to balance life outside of school with school work. Also, it is also very costly which puts some pressure on you as a veterinary student as well. Personal characteristics required for this profession include being compassionate, intelligent, curious, motivated and above all caring. Good luck with your project! I hope you get an A!

    1. To be a veterinarian, you need to take university classes before getting into vet school. Most people graduate from a university before entering vet school, but there are some vet schools that will allow direct entrance into vet school without the degree as long you have completed all the necessary university classes and have the grades to get in. 2. Being a vet does not have set hours. It's long days and nights, and vet have to be on call after hours and do work weekends. 3. The pros are being able to help animals. 4. To be honest, the stress of being a vet, the difficulty in finding a good work/life balance, and seeing animal cruelty cases are all cons of being a vet. 5. Any part of vet work requires a lot of focus and problem solving. Our patients cannot speak for themselves, so we need to diagnose what is causing their problems without that help. 6. As for visuals, you can find pictures that show vets doing surgery, examining animals, and treating them. I hope this helps!
