My Maltese is peeing often, lethargic, and trembling. Is it a UTI?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | spayed | 12 years and 7 months old | 15.5 lbs

12.5 year-old spayed female Maltese has started dribbling her urine too day; yesterday she had to go frequently. She will not eat or drink water, is lethargic, has shaking/trembling spells, and her behavior has changed— slightly irritable and little confused. Is this a UTI?

A UTI is certainly a possibility, but other concerns such as a kidney infection is also possible. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If you can take a urine sample with you to your appointment. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
