My dog has swollen, red, pussy bumps. What's wrong with her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rhodesian Ridgeback | Female | spayed | 43 lbs

My dog Liara had these bumps pop up a few weeks ago. I assumed she was bitten by an insect and they would go away. Now they are swollen, red, and almost pussy. Should I worry?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on your photo and the description I would suspect that this is a bacterial skin infection know as superficial pyoderma. I would recommend using the following treatments, which can all be found online quite easily. If there is no improvement or the bumps worsen, I would recommend having them looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment and diagnostic recommendations can be made. 1. Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved 2. Malacetic conditioning spray and apply to affected area twice weekly until resolved I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns that I may help you with!
