Why is my cat straining to pee, breathing heavy, and has a runny eye?

She may have a urinary tract infection. This causes straining with only small amounts of urine and burning when she urinates. It causes discomfort which is why she is roaming and can't get comfortable. I recommend taking her to your veterinarian for treatment. They will check a urine sample for bacteria, blood and crystals and will prescribe medication, usually antibiotics. If there are crystals they may recommend a prescription food to prevent this from recurring again. Please don't give her human pain medications. This may sound odd, but luckily she is a female. Male cats can develop an obstruction of the urethra relatively easily, as the urethra is very narrow and can get plugged with inflammatory cells, debris, stones, and the swelling of the urethra itself can become obstructive. A urethral obstruction is an emergency, because life threatening electrolyte abnormalities can start to occur that can result in cardiac arrest, also the bladder can actually rupture. Having said all of that, this problem is rare in female cats. Its possible that a stone could get lodged in the urethra, but their urethras are shorter and wider than that of male cats so we just don't see it much at all in females. She very well may have a significant amount of inflammation in her urinary tract that is making her feel like she constantly has to go even when shes not producing anything. She should be seen by your vet, where they will examine her and evaluate a sample of her urine to look for evidence of infection. They will set her up with antibiotics if indicated to treat the infection. I also see she is unspayed. Frequent attempts to urinate can also be a symptom of a life threatening uterine infection ("pyometra"), or very rarely a urethral obstruction (though this is much more common in male cats, and quite rare in females). If Boo gets sicker overnight she may need to be taken to the emergency vet. However, these possibilities would be much less likely than a urinary tract infection. Inability to urinate can be lifethreatening as the urine backs up into the kidneys and prevents them from filtering out toxins, which build up in the body and can make Rata very sick. Poor Panbeh! It sounds like he has a bad urinary tract infection. This is very painful-like peeing razor blades. He could also have bladder stones or a urethral blockage. With his urine being dark brown I would be concerned about a possible urinate tract infection or even a partial urinary blockage. Make cats commonly develop sediment and/or stones in their bladder that can cause a lot of discomfort and even can block their urethra and prevent them from urinating. He could also be constipated and he may need an enema to help relieve him. I would take him to your vet to ensure his bladder isn't blocked or partially blocked because if this is left untreated it can cause issues with his kidneys from urine backing up or bacteria getting into his kidneys. Your vet will be able to palpate his bladder, run a urinalysis, palpate his colon to make sure he isn't constipated and even take X-rays if needed.
