Why is my cat suddenly terrified of the bed and acting so strange?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed

Something at the foot of the bed has my cat absolutely terrified, ive never seen her act like this in the 2 years ive had her. I picked up anything around the room thinking maybe it was a cord. This has been going on since 9pm last night. I have to physically bring her in the room and she acts worse than bath time. One pic I put her on the bed and she just buries her head and faces the corner. The other, I moved her to the arm of the couch and shes just dead weight. Thus her arm hanging there.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend that you try a product called Feliway which can help cats deal with any stress inducing situations like the one you describe. You can buy this as a spray for example at your local pet store or online. If she does not improve, the other thing that should be considered is if there is a medical reason for all of this which is certainly possible. If her behavior does not improve, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. She is adorable! Good luck!
