My dog threw up a bug. What if he has stomach worms or parasites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 5 months and 29 days old | 26 lbs

Last night my pup threw up a couple of times ( that's what I know of ) , started noticing if there's any unusual thing he ate . After inspecting , it had some chicken pieces he ate for dinner along with a card board chewed and an insect of some kind in his vomit . Please see the pic of that thing ... Can you advise what should I give to him if he's got stomach insects inside him to avoid this getting serious . He never showed any signs of sickness in his poop etc .

From the picture it it looks like some type of maggot. I am suspicious that he probably ate this and that it isn’t a parasite. However, if vomiting continues he should be evaluated by your veterinarian. Also taking in a fresh poop sample to look for intestinal parasite eggs. If you haven’t thrown the maggot away you can throw it in a zip lock bag and take it in with you as well. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
