I would not be concerned if Dani only ate one bite of a lemon poppyseed muffin. Please monitor GI upset like vomiting and diarrhea and if these occur you may offer a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice. If vomiting or diarrhea does occur and is severe you may need to have Dani examined to see if medication is needed. Again, I think it's highly unlikely Dani will become sick but do suggest monitoring her for the next day or so to ensure she doesn't get mild stomach upset. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I'm hoping Dani shows no ill effects!

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poppy seeds are generally mildly to moderately toxic to dogs, and this depends greatly on the amount ingested. The toxic opioids and alkaloids in the poppy seeds can make dogs lethargic or overly excited. Some signs to look out for include vomiting, lethargy, pinpoint or dilated pupils, or increased salivation. If Dani has any of these symptoms, she should be seen by a vet immediately as this may require stabilization. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
