My dog's jaw abscess burst. Is it okay to wait until morning for vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 29 days old | 95 lbs

So my dog did have an abscess and it looks like it has ruptured he is currently taking prednisone and doxycycline for his salivary gland , he doesn't seem to be in pain from where the hole is under his jaw, should I just let the abscess continue to drain and take him To the vet in the morning

Let the abscess drain and if you like you can take some cotton wool and wipe off the pus. A ruptured abscess is not an emergency, so there is ample time to wait and take him in to a veterinarian tomorrow.
