My vaccinated cat has diarrhea; can it still be panleukopenia?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Can cats get a muted parvo or distemper after full immunization with boosters? We have 20 fosters of varying ages. Panluc hit us. Lost four kittens with initial vaccines but were almost due and one fully immunized 2 Healthy 2 year old Everyone has been triple vaccinated and the virus should have shed. New development; horrible watery diarrhea in several. Lower intestine (mucous; some blood, no loss of appetite) Tested; no parasites. No new animals at all.

Animals vaccinated with a live vaccine can develop mild symptoms and shedding for a short while in the minority of cases, but inactive vaccines would not have this effect. There are many possible causes of viral and bacterial diarrhea and i would recommend testing stools parvo in affected cases if you are concerned
