My chihuahua ate foam, won't eat/drink, lethargic. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 10 days old | 4 lbs

7 month old chihuahua won't eat or drink anything which is totally not her. She usually eats everything in site. She also sleeps all day which again is not like her. My cousin also said she ate couch foam like the day before she started acting this way. We also think she has worms. I am too poor to afford a vet trip is there anything i can do for her? i am saving every penny to try and go to the vet or just get the medicine.

What you are describing is very concerning of a bowel obstruction. These are very serious conditions and require surgery in order to keep them from having life-threatening complications. Unfortunately, there is not home treatment option or medicine that will help with this condition; she needs veterinary intervention right away. I understand that money is an issue, but there are often various options in these cases and I recommend contacting a local animal emergency center and asking if there are payment options available. If not, you can contact a local animal rescue for advice about affordable veterinary care, but I'm afraid you won't have time to wait until these places are open. I hope that helps and Fludders gets better soon.
