My cat is suddenly peeing little, lethargic, and meowing. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 7 years and 5 months old | 12 lbs

Suddenly peeing around the house, and never very much. Also, acting more lethargic than usual, and walking around the house meowing a lot more. Going in and out of the box frequently, without actually using it. It has been cleaned recently.

I'd be very concerned that Skywalker has a urinary blockage (meaning he cannot fully release all the urine in his bladder). This is a medical emergency and he should be examined by a veterinarian right away. The blockage can be related to a plug of blood cells or bladder stones or urinary crystals. This blockage may require catherterization to remove and can be life threatening if not cleared. There is also a chance that Skywalker has feline lower urinary tract Disease which can also cause these signs. This also requires veterinary care to help treat so again, please take Skywalker to see a veterinarian right away. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for Skywalker!
