Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 10 months old
My dog's right eye suddenly became swollen and it somewhat reddish. When I try to brush my hand on the eye to test if she'll bite me or not, she shows no signs of pain. She did not eat anything prior to me seeing her condition. All she did was sleep all day. There is no vomiting. She does not seem to have fever. She was able to eat dinner, so there is no change in her appetite. She's still kind of active, relative to her age.

It seems like a possible eye infection or allergic reaction (the other eye seems slightly affected too, unless it is always this way). you should take Krissy to your vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, it will probably require a course of antibiotic eye drops.

Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Please attach a picture of the lesion to a further question and post it on the forum to receive more specific answers from us. Hope this answer was helpful, but please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further. Please find the time to give us a feedback about the consultation as that will be used to improve our service.

Poor Lucy! That eye looks painful! She will need to see a veterinarian right away as she could have a number of issues going on including traumatic damage to the eye, an infection, an allergic reaction, corneal scratch, or even glaucoma. Issues with the eye should always be addressed immediately because some eye problems can result in blindness. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I hope Lucy makes a full recovery!
