Why did a friendly outdoor cat follow me home meowing? Is it hungry or aggressive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

There's a friendly outdoor male cat my dad feeds regularly and is very friendly with me too, but he has a problem with another male cat, he meows at him, stalks him, and they even fight with one another. That very same male cat, today followed me up to my home (about 30 meters away) while meowing at me. My question is: why would he do it? Was he asking food from, or was he threatening me and maybe even prepare to attack me?

I suspect the cat was just trying to get you to feed him, especially if he is used to getting food from your dad. However, I suggest trying to avoid the cat because if it is an aggressive tendency he is showing you do not want to risk injury to yourself. Because he is an outdoor cat you do not know if he is up to date on his Rabies vaccine so avoidance is best to reduce the risk of injury to yourself.
