My 9-week-old puppy is sick and trying to throw up. Should I induce vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 4 days old

My almost 9 week old puppy is not acting her self and has tried to throw up twice with no success. As far as I know she has not gotten into anything or eaten anything other the puppy food and maybe a little grass / leaves and snow. We've only had her for 4 days and she is not acting her self .. I can't afford the 24hr vet where I live. We had to induce vomiting before with one of our dogs, should we do that again.

I would not induce vomiting with her. I would keep her warm and maybe offer just very small amounts of water or low sodium chicken broth. If she doesn’t seem back to normal by morning then I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon.
