My dog accidentally mated. Is she pregnant? What are my options?

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Kelpie | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 1 day old | 7 lbs

Our 7 month old shih tzu went into heat and accidentally got with a shih tzu. I'm not sure if she is pregnant, if she is what are our options? I can not let anything bad happen to her!!!!

It is certainly possible that she is pregnant since she mated when she was in heat. If you do not want puppies, then the best option is to have Chloe spayed now. This will terminate the pregnancy and prevent any further pregnancies. You can speak to your vet tomorrow about scheduling a spay for her. If she mated very recently, there is a mis-mating injection that can be given by a vet, but it will not prevent future pregnancies. Finally, there are drugs that can cause an abortion in dogs when they are pregnant, but that should absolutely be a last resort. This is because it will put serious stress on her. Keep in mind as well that the vet may not want to administer a drug like this due to ethical reasons, which is within their right. The best thing to do is have her spayed, and then you don't have to worry about her accidentally mating again in the future. Good luck, I hope this helps!

If this was an accidental or unwanted mating, you can have her seen by your veterinarian tomorrow. He or she can dispense a course of hormones to prevent pregnancy. It is similar to the "day after" pill for humans. The other option is to schedule a spay in the next couple weeks. It may be riskier because she is in heat, but you won't have to worry about her coming into heat again or accidental litters.

This can be a difficult situation! Since Snowbell mated (I assume while she was in heat), there is certainly a chance that she may have become pregnant. At this point, your options are to either have her spayed very soon to terminate any possible pregnancy and prevent the occurrence of future pregnancies, or wait and allow her to deliver any pups. In this situation, it sounds as though spaying her would be for the best, but I realize that this is a personal decision. I hope that all goes well for Snowbell!

Honestly, your best option is to spay her now if you are not planning on ever breeding her. That way she will not have puppies and you don't have to use the mismating shot which does have a lot of side effects as you have researched. Keeping her intact (not spayed) is not good for her health in the long run if she is not a breeding dog. They have higher instances of pyometra (deadly uterine infection), mammary (breast) cancer and uterine/ovarian cancers among other issues. Here is an article about this. We’ve had a family members 6th month old pup staying with us I’m own 10mknth old up came into season just as they came to stay they have tied 3 times is there anything I can do to stop pups?
If you don’t plan to breed her in the future then I would recommend spaying her as soon as possible. There are medications that can be given to abort the feti, but this can be very hard on the mama dog, and it is not 100% reliable. This is usually given under hospitalization observation. Hi there! Woops! That happens sometimes. By best advice and best solution to the problem is to have Merci spayed. Spaying her will solve this issue as well as prevent it from happening in the future. If you wish to keep Merci intact, then there is estrogen treatment available, but is associated with a variety of risks including increased risk of uterine infection. It is also not very effective as shown from previous research. Spaying her may be the way to go here. I hope this helps and thanks for using Boop by Petco!

Hello, depending on the laws and regulation in the U.K., you may elect to have Paris spayed which will terminate the pregnancy and make it so that she is unable become preganant again. There are medications that your veterinarian can use to terminate the pregnancy, but again, it is dependant on the laws and regulations in your country and wether these medications are available there. Female dog had puppies 2.5 weeks ago, she abandoned them just put her outside with my male and he tied to her. She just had pups is there any way she could've went into heat again and if so can vet abort?
Typically dogs go into heat once every six months, but if she didn't nurse the puppies, it is possible she has gone into heat again; however, that's not a common occurrence. Given that Zeva has abandoned her puppies, it is indicative that she has poor mothering ability. This could be due to her age (it's never recommended to breed a dog on her first heat), or she may simply not have good mother abilities. Based on this, I would not recommend breeding her again, and I would have her spayed. Spaying her will abort a pregnancy now if she is pregnant, and prevent future litters from occurring. There is a shot that can be done to terminate a pregnancy, but it has to be done right after mating. I would take her into a vet now.

Average gestation in dogs is 63 days. There is no way to determine if Brownienis even pregnant until about 4 weeks after the last mating. She can be spayed now if you choose. Seasons do not affect healing time. There are medi ations that can be given to prevent pregnancy after an accidental or unwanted mating. You would need to have her seen by your veterinarian today. Typically, a 5 day course of a specific hormone is dispensed.
