My cat is depressed and won't accept new kittens. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old

I have a Bengal Cat, about 1.8years old.. she lost her mate this June, a common Bombay cat due to an injury and she's not really recovered from the loss... There are still signs of depression she's not as playful she used to be. She was quite a hyperactive cat. To keep her company I recently fostered two 2-months old kittens in September, and she hasn't accepted them. there's hissing and everything even though I didn't rush it. What can I do for the betterment of my cat's mental health? thank u.

I suggest you try some Feliway diffusers in the house. Feliway is "happy cat" pheromones and really helps to de-stress cats in these types of situations. https://www.feliway.com/uk Usually adding new cats/kittens to the mix is not a good idea. It usually just causes more stress. Hope this helps.
