Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 years and 8 months old
My Yorkie was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and the vet gave him Viagra. I am taking him in to see cardiologist for testing as soon as I can get him in this week. Is this always a death sentence? What can I do to keep him comfortable in the mean time. He is eating and drinking.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Oliver! No, it isn't always a death sentence! You are an amazing owner and doing everything you can do for Oliver. The viagra treats pulmonary hypertension which the cardiologist can confirm based on the echocardiogram. Most likely the cardiologist will also prescribe other heart medications. I am sure Vetmedin and possibly enalapril. Lasix is sometimes prescribed when the animal is also in heart failure. You are doing everything you can! Just love him and see what the cardiologist says! I hope this helps and my fingers are crossed for you and Oliver!
