My cat has a small head cut that's healing. Can I treat it at home?

My brother cut my cats head with a knife he used to cut potatoes :/ he said he hit her with it kinda hard, and the cut is about half an inch and its already closed and looks as if its healing. It isnt bleeding and she isnt crying, and we cant afford to bring her to the vet :/ what should we do :(.

I would not do anything to it if it appears to be healing and she doesn't seem bothered by it. Just monitor it and if you notice anything abnormal with it: it opens up, has discharge coming from it, it is swollen, etc then you should get her to a vet as antibiotics may be needed to get it to heal. If it is not healing and seems to be getting worse, then I would schedule and appointment to see a vet as it may need antibiotics to heal completely. Try to keep it clean with mild soap and water and make sure to not get any in her eyes due to its location until you can get her seen

It is really difficult for us to help you with a question like this without a photo. My guess without having that is that the wound is healing fine and I would recommend you just leave it alone. Many wounds heal just fine without stitches. If you would like to post again with some photos we may be able to help you better. Best wishes.

Hi A pic helps in this cases so I always suggest to attach pics. But since there are none , in general , if the cut is already healing and showing no signs of infection such as redness, discharge, pain, swelling and the cat is not bothered by it , scratching etc you can monitor it is healing till its gone. If Any signs as the one mentioned above start take him to the vet. Also according to your question the scratchbis under the collar so it may ne a good idea to take off the collar just for a while to air the area . Hope this helps

Cat has cut on it's back, no bleeding, looks to be minor, how can I treat this?
Great question! I would gently clean Tit with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and Boy will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!

My cat has a small (dime sized) wound on his neck. It has no smell and seems not to be hurting him He let me get a good look and 2 pictures.
If the wound is superficial and just in the skin, I suggest washing the area well with antibacterial soap and water and make sure to scrub it well to keep the wound open. Apply a warm washcloth to it 2-3 times a day for five minutes at a time to help keep it clean and draining. After washing and the compress, dry it well and apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment that does NOT contain hydrocortisone, like Neosporin to the wound. Steroids will slow healing. Rub it in well and don't leave any excess for your pet to lick off. If it does not show signs of healing or your pet develops a fever, loses his appetite, start vomiting and/or having diarrhea, if the spot becomes reddened, hot and/or hard, get him in to be seen by your veterinarian right away.

Please look at the photo attached, can you tell what this is on my cats head. Is it something I need to be concerned about and take her to the vet? She is still eating, drinking and purring, still her usual self.
It looks like they may be healing scratches from another pet or from trying to squeeze through somewhere. If she has itchy skin she could have inflicted this trauma on herself. If she seems otherwise normal, I suggest keeping an eye on it and make sure it is healing. If swelling begins, or if the wounds start oozing blood or pus, get her in to be seen by your vet right away. The wounds could seal over, trapping bacteria inside and form an abscess. This is messy and painful and is best taken care of by your vet.

It appears that the wound is healing properly. I think it unlikely that she will die from this superficial wound. Continue to clean it daily with warm water, and prevent licking since this will delay healing. You can use a topical ointment like Neosporin. If the area around the wound suddenly gets red, swollen, or it oozes a creamy discharge, then Tiger may need evaluation by a vet and a round of oral antibiotics.

I'm sorry you lost your job recently! If the cut on Princess isn't deep or long, and it has stopped bleeding, then there is not need to see a vet just yet. I would gently clean it with an antiseptic soap and warm water, and put an Ecollar on her to prevent her from licking it. You can get one from the vet's office, or a pet store. Monitor the cut, and if it starts looking red, swollen, warm to the touch, and/or is discharging pus, then it is infected and Princess will need to see the vet. I also wouldn't put any antibiotic ointment on it. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, cats groom and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed.

Hi. My cat has a pea sized perfectly round wound on her leg looks raw. No behavioral changes, or appetite changes, seems like it doesn't bother her. It's on her hip. Any advice would be great.
Ouch, poor Pritzy! Thank you for providing pictures of this wound, as it helps with my answer to you. I don't see any pus, and it doesn't look particularly red, swollen, or deep. Based on that, this is something you can try to treat at home. I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on her.
