My puppy's gums bleed when chewing. Is it teething or dental?

Hello, my name is Dilan and I own a 5-month-old Maremma Sheepdog and I have realised that when he bites onto something he bleeds from his gums and was wondering if he is bleeding from his gums because he is teething or because he has some sort of dental disease.

Hi Dilan, It is quite normal for a puppy's gums to bleed when they are teething and chewing on things. Gums can bleed more easy with gum disease, but a puppy that age would not have gum disease, so need to worry about that right now. I hope that helps and all is well with Toby.

Puppies at this age (4 months) have bleeding when their puppy teeth are coming out due to the adult teeth erupting. This is similar to what happens in newborn babies when their teeth come in, they will cause gum bleeding because the tooth is cutting through the gum surface. This process will complete around 6 months of age.
