Is it too early to get another cat for my recently adopted kitten?

I have a 6 month old kitten and I want to possibly introduce another cat to the home. I only got her 5 days ago, is it too soon to get another cat. I don’t know if I should get her more adjusted or I.T would be helpful to have another. Also can I get any sex and any age or should I go for one that’s more around her age? Thanks !

Congrats on your new cat! Given that you just got Winnie, it would be best to let her adjust to her new home before introducing another cat. That's because moving into a new home is stressful for a cat, and introducing another cat into the home will put added stress on her. I would wait a few months, then look into getting another cat. You can get any age or sex you want, but Winnie may like another cat around her age so they can play a lot together. Enjoy your new kitten, and I hope this helps!

I'm very sorry you recently lost your cat! Adding in a new cat to a house is stressful to the existing cat, so I would think about adopting just one at this point in time. One will give Chloe a companion to have in the home, and you can consider adding on another one at a later time if you'd like. Keep in mind that when you bring a new cat into the home, you should introduce them slowly to each other to reduce stress to either cat. Take the kitten, and put her in her own room with her own food, water, and litter box. Keep the door closed, and for a few days, feed them both treats on other side of door so they associate each other's smell with a good experience. Then let the other cat in the kitten's room while the kitten is in a cat carrier. They can smell each other, but not be in contact. If either becomes upset or show signs of aggression, remove the second cat from the room, and try again later. Praise them when they interact appropriately. When they are interacting well

Already have a cat, moving into a new home. Want another cat. Should we wait until our old cat has adapted before adopting a new cat or let them adapt to the new house together at the same time?
Personally, I would wait on the new cat until your older cat has gotten used to the house. A move is a very stressful event, and adding a new cat to the mix may be even MORE stressful for Jazzy, which could lead to behavioral or health issues. Once used to the new house, you can then try introducing a new cat. Having some things such as extra litter, food, water, bedding and places to hide as well as pheromone diffusers that diffuse calming pheromones can help ease the transition once you do add a new cat.

I think getting another kitty friend for Spooky is a great idea. Try to get a cat who is similar in age, personality type and energy level. Ideally get a cat who is socialized with cats. Many shelters now house cats in communal areas. Spend some times watching the cats to get an idea of their temperaments. You don't want to adopt a cat is is scared and hiding from other cats just like you don't want to adopt a bully. It doesn't matter if its male or female. Matching the energy levels is much more important. Also keep in mind that most cats will not hit it off right away. Posturing and hissing are normal behaviors for the firs few weeks until the pecking order is figured out. Thank you for using Pet Coach!

Hello. This is a tricky question to answer because you never know how things will go until you try. Some cats absolutely hate other cats, others love company, & others are OK with a newcomer as long as the food dish stays full. I would try introducing them shortly after you move. Give Kofta a few days to a week to get used to the new house first. Then, after she seems comfortable, introduce the new boy under supervision. Often, a kitten is readily accepted after a few swats & hisses. Make sure there are double the resources for the cats at first. 2 litter boxes in separate areas, 2 food & water dishes, & plenty of places to escape & hide ( save those cardboard boxes ). I am always rescuing cats & kittens, & eventually, everyone settles down. Good luck & take care.

If your older cats have been together for several years, they probably have their "territories" picked out. It is quite possible that they just don't like each other. Having more than one pet is often like being placed with a roommate that you didn't choose - sometimes it is a great fit and sometimes you can't wait to move out! It is hard for me to tell you if getting new kittens will help or hurt the current situation, as it would just depend on how happy your current cats would be with new, and very young roommates. Kittens like to play, a lot, and often need to be taught the rules of the house. There will likely be a lot of fighting at the start until the kittens grow up a little. There is a possibility that kittens will help the other cats mellow out together, but my gut feeling is that this may not happen. If you do decide to get new kittens, remember that you will need a drastic increase in litter boxes (and feeding stations and water bowls). Veterinary behaviorists recommend 1

Likely getting a young adult cat would be best so that they are about the same age and may have similar energy levels. It doesn't matter male or female as long as they are both fixed. Pay more attention to personality and look for a cat who is already in a social situation with other cats. Try to get a cat with a temperament similar to Kovu's. I'm so sorry for your loss. In general, cats tend to get along better with members of the opposite sex so you may want to consider adopting a male. Kittens can be quite annoying to older cats, but with an older cat it may be difficult to determine what their personality is like prior to adoption and older cats are not quite as adaptable as kittens are. If there is a rescue group or shelter in your area you may want to ask about young adult cats with easygoing personalities - there may even be a rescue that would allow you to take a cat home for a trial period. If you do end up adopting a new cat be sure to introduce them to each other very slowly, make sure they have separate resources at first (food, water, resting areas and litter pans) and consider a pheromone spray like Feliway to reduce stress.

I have a 6 yr old cat that's been around other cats her whole life. I soon plan to move out of my parent's house and take her with me once I'm settled in with my boyfriend. She doesn't like being alone for too long, but sometimes she likes her space.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Cats are finicky creatures. Cats tend to only like the cats they know. Even though your cat seems to like the ones she lives with doesn't mean she will like a new cat. Cats are territorial and like their own personal space. I would first allow your cat to get used to your new house with your boyfriend. See how is goes over several months. She will be stressed for a while just because of the move. Then see how she is once she is settled. If you want to get another cat for company consider it in a few months. Good luck!

While you can't predict how any cat would react, I would avoid adding stress to both your feral cat, and you, and a new cat until everyone is settled in and comfortable in your home. This would introduce a lot stress to everyone which may lead to increased behavioral issues, or may cause your feral cat to not bond with you as closely. Once your feral cat has settled in some and seems more comfortable, you can then re-evaluate if a kitten would be a good addition to the home.

It's kind of you to think about getting Josie a kitty friend for company, since you'll be starting work soon - I'm sure she would appreciate it, if you can find her a good match :) You're right that it can sometimes be difficult to successfully introduce adult cats to each other, so a kitten may be easier. And generally speaking, male/female pairs tend to do better - so I think a male kitten is a great option. To help make the introduction go as smoothly as possible, I would recommend setting up a separate room for the kitten when you first bring him home - he should have his own food and water bowls, litter box, toys, and a scratching post or cat tree. Keep him in this room with the door closed for the first week or two, so that Josie can get used to smelling him and hearing him through the door. You can also help her to associate good things with the kitten by feeding her treats outside his door a few times a day. Once she is no longer reacting at all when she hears him or sm
