Why is my senior cat leaking from a crusty spot near his anus?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 13 years and 9 months old | 17 lbs

My cat is 14 years old and diagnosed with diabetes about a year ago and gets insulin shots x 2/day. He has a raised crusty looking legion near his anus and right under his tail. He leaks it excessively. Any idea as to what this could be?

Poor Montana! This could be his anal sac that appears crusty and is leaking. It could be impacted and infected, causing the symptoms that you are seeing. Please keep in mind that without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain, but it would be my best guess. It could also be he has a wound there that has become infected. I recommend having him seen by a vet for this. The vet can diagnose what is causing this lesion and the best way to treat it. I would have him seen by a vet on Monday or Tuesday next week. Good luck, I hope this helps!
