Why is my dog refusing food and throwing up, but acting normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 5 months old

My dog hasn’t been eating much lately. A few days ago, we gave him a plain cooked burger patty from Whataburger. He ate a little bit of dog food the next day but then refused to eat for 2 days after that. He ate on the fourth day but yesterday he refused to eat again. He also went to the groomer yesterday morning. This morning he threw up 3 or 4 times while I was sleeping. He seems fine now. He’s not acting any different, just sleeping like he usually does. He has drunk some water.

There is a long list of problems that can cause inappetance and vomiting. However, at his young age I worry more about intestinal foreign objects but other problems such as pancreatitis, Addison’s disease, kidney disease, and liver infections are also possibilities. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
