Will my dog's Nexgard oral flea treatment work after a bath?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Eskimo Dog | Male | neutered | 3 years and 9 months old | 40 lbs

I just gave my dog a nexgard oral flea treatment right after a bath while he is still wet. I wasn’t thinking straight. Is it not going to work now?

No worries about him getting wet, or bathing with this product. These oral products are not effected by bathing, or getting wet like the topical products are. He can be bathed at any time when he gets this product and it will still be effective. I hope that helps and all is well with Roscoe.

Wait at least 24 hours. However, it is ideal to bath Toby before you apply the treatment so you don't wash off your product. Unless you are using a detergent free shampoo, it will wash away your flea product. Please post again if you have any further questions.

Generally when using topical flea treatments it is advisable not to bathe the pet for 3 days after application. Now if you were to give an oral flea preventative / treatment then bathing him would not be an issue. I like using Bravecto or Nexgard for my oral flea preventative. I hope this helps! You will need a prescription for either preventative as well. I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or concerns you may have. I am also available via consultation if needed.

Yes you can give her a bath a week after giving her the spot on. It should not wash off as it will have spread in the top layer of the skin. Just ddo not bathe her within the first two days after applying it.
