Is a broken Amaryllis leaf toxic to my cat if she didn't eat it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 years and 5 months old | 7 lbs

I will be sure to put it out of reach of my cat, it's going upstairs actually a place where she can't get to. But since If I have an Amaryllis that I received for Christmas and it has a broken leaf that happened during transport. Do the rules of toxicity apply since the leaf is broken but my cat didn't chew/bite it? Can it spread sap/toxicity onto the wrapping paper of the other presents it came with it my hands? I did wash twice with soap and hot water before touching my cat by the way.

Thanks for reaching out again! The broken leaf shouldn't be an issue unless she chewed on it or ate it. There shouldn't be an issue with it having touched anything else that she may have contact with. Enjoy your holiday!
