My bird is suddenly quiet and inactive after changes. Is she sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 3 years and 11 months old

My bird is very active and chirps a lot when people enter the room. The last couple of days, she just sleeps on perches without much activity and doesn't make noise when people come in. I've recently been changing a lot for her (got a larger cage, made a new food mix, got more toys, more training with treats, etc.) and I was just wondering what could cause this change in behavior. Could it be a health problem or a reaction to something I did? She also laid two eggs this year, could that be it?

That's a lot of change at once and it could be that it's stressing Blu-ray (cute name!) out a bit. I would hold off on giving any extra treats for a few days, as they may be causing digestive upset as well, and see if she improves. If the listless behavior continues, she stops eating or drinking, or she appears to get worse, then it is a good idea to seek veterinary care ASAP to rule out any more serious issues such as an underlying illness or infection.
