Why is my dog's penis red, bleeding, and his urine dark and smelly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 5 years and 10 months old | 59 lbs

My dog has a blister or redness to the tip of his penis. It drips drops of blood, but he doesn't seem to be sick. His urine is dark and smells at times. Is there anything I can put on to get better?

There appears to be some major inflammation at the tip of the penis, most likely from an injury or excessive licking. My best recommendation to you would be to have Taco examined by your veterinarian. I would bring a urine sample to he appointment if you are able to catch one. Taco will likely need antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs to get he penis back to normal. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
