My puppy won't self-entertain. How can I get work done at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 2 days old | 13 lbs

My 6 puppy is bored! I take him out for (30min - 1 hour) walks twice a day and he has plenty of chew/cuddle toys, plus I give him his food in game. When he is up all he wants is to play, chew things or go on walks! I work from Home so need a couple of hours in the day to myself. Should I just ignore him? Is it normal for dogs to enterntain themselves? He only likes toys with food and either gets it fast or looses interest. He loves rawhide but I don’t want to give him more than one a day :(

Your best bet would be to get a crate for Barni. It should be only big enough for him to stand up and turn around in. He can learn to stay there quietly for the time you have to be working. You are not the chairman of his entertainment committee! And yes, you should ignore his pestering if he's already had enough of your attention for the moment.
