My 6-month-old cockatiel laid an egg. Will she use the nest box?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 3 days old

My breeder Cockatiels just laid an egg at 6 months old on bottom of cage. I put a nestbox in and out egg in it. Do you think she’ll go in box?

It's possible. If she's ready to lay eggs and has already started, the nest box and moving the egg to it may encourage her to finish laying there and to stay on them. First time mothers can also sometimes not sit on the eggs properly or be competent in raising young so if you think the egg is viable and she refuses to lay on it, you may need to attempt to incubate it yourself and hand-rear any that hatch.
