Why is my dog yelping, shivering, and in pain when moving or jumping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

My dachshund is experiencing pain in what I believe is the chest area. Every time she’s picked up, she yelps and she’s also yelping randomly when walking. She can no longer jump onto my bed (1 foot above the floor) like she used to be able to, and she seems to not be able to curl up when sleeping, and instead just lays straight (abnormal). She’s also shivering, but I don’t believe it’s becasue she’s cold becasue I layered blankets on her with no effect. Thank you for your time.

It could be abdominal pain as well as spinal pain. Sometimes spinal disease can have vague symptoms such as shivering or shaking. I would recommend that you have her checked over as there are some medications that will ease the pain immediately but it is essential to distinguish wether the symptoms described are related to a muscular condition,to osteoarthritis or to something more serious like an herniated disc in her spine. This last case is the worst scenario as it can worsen very quickly and determine paralysis. I hope you can have Ebby checked over ASAP and that it is nothing too serious.
