My dog has strange, crusty spots on his penis. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 5.5 lbs

My dog has some strange spots around his penis. He also has spotted balls. One right next to his penis has been there for as long as I can remember. He's two and a half years now. However, lately I've seemed to notice that particular spot more. It could just be me. He doesn't seem to be licking any more than usual, although he has always licked in that area a fair amount. When I touch, it feels crusty, but isn't open or oozing in any way. It doesn't seem painful to him. Should I be concerned?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! It's hard to clearly make out the picture of his testicles. But it isn't abnormal for dogs to have freckles or pigmentation on their testicles. The scrotum is just like regular skin, if the animal is white with spots the scrotum can have spots. As for the spots on his belly, they could be evidence of a mild skin infection. A pustule that popped and left a crusty ring. If he only has those 2-3 spots and isn't excessively licking or scratching, you can try a medicated shampoo. Bathe him 2-3 times per week and leave the lather on the affected areas for 10 mins before rinsing. If he is licking or scratching a lot, if the areas don't resolve or more form then she should be examined by your Vet. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=27306 I hope this helps and I wish you and Sloane the best!
