Why is my dog suddenly withdrawn, not eating, and showing pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Male | neutered | 2 years old

What does it mean when your dog is suddenly excluding himself & not eating like he use too? My dogs usually really clingy but he just wants to sleep in the garage now & doesn't come when he's called. He's always been a picker eater but he's stopped eating his biscuts just his meat & thats it. He has recently stopped going for his daily walks and we take him twice a week now & he recently bit the Veterinarian for getting too close to a big cut on his cheek. It's not like him at all.

Poor Caesar. There definitely sounds like something has changed. There are so many things that can cause him to be acting this way. He could be hurting somewhere, ill with an infection, or stress from an environmental change. You could try an adaptil calming collar but if it isn’t improving then I would have your vet look at him. Your vet can do some bloodwork to rule out any infections or liver/kidney issues and also try to locate any possible painful areas. Your vet can also start him on a medicine for anxiety if needed. I hope this helps!
