Updated On September 23rd, 2025

What can be the reasons for cat being very restless sometimes and licking its vulva and peeing where it didnt used to before? I notice quite often that its back part twicthes many times (upper than the tail). What could be the reasons for all of these specially the twitching thing, please help.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern! What you are describing could very well be due to a urinary tract infection. If Barbie is uncomfortable or experiencing pain from the infection, the twitching could be secondary to the infection. I would recommend that Barbie be examined by a veterinarian and have her urine tested to see if there is a urinary tract infection going on so that the most appropriate treatment can be recommended. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Poor Barbie! Drinking and urinating excessively can be caused by a number of underlying health conditions, such as diabetes, kidney disease, urinary tract infections, among many others. In a 10 month old kitten, a urinary tract infection (UTI) would be my main concern, particularly since Barbie is also licking her hind end (likely her vulva) excessively. UTIs can cause a fair amount of discomfort, which can result in behavioral changes, such as crying and interacting with you differently. At this point, I recommend taking Barbie to her vet for a physical exam and urinalysis to try to get to the bottom of things. If a UTI is diagnosed, antibiotics will be needed. I hope this helps and that Barbie feels better soon!
