Why isn't my newly adopted shy cat meowing in his new home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 26 days old | 4 lbs

Hi! I adopted a 10 month cat yesterday. He is soooo shy and he bearly got used to the new home. I’m concerned because I never heard him meow. But he hasn’t shown any signs of diseases that might have coused him to lose his meow. Also, he can do that threatening sound that cats usually do. I’m thinking maybe he is still getting used to his new home, but I’m not sure. It would really mean a lot if you could help me understand why he doesn’t mew, or recommend me something... thank you!

Hi there. Some cats don't meow often, and as he adjusts to his new home he may start being more vocal, but he may not. Both are normal. If he's feeling well otherwise, you have nothing to worry about. Thanks for using Pet Coach!
