My arthritic dog is in severe pain, shaking, not eating. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 60 lbs

My dog has arthritis but it has never hurt him so much until now. He’s not eating. He’s shaking. Whimpering whenever that area is touched and just not moving around at all.

Poor Dallas! If he is in that much pain from arthritis then he should be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to help treat the problem. Do not give any OTC pain relievers, like Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, etc. as they can be toxic to dogs. If your regular vet can't see him then you could take him to an emergency clinic so he can get some relief. Hope he feels better soon!
