My old Pomeranian is losing weight and has digestive issues. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | spayed | 14 years and 3 months old | 8 lbs

I have a 14 yr old female pom who has definitely lost weight and I don't know what to do about it. She had 20 teeth removed almost 2 years ago and was doing fine until the last 6 mos....its hard to switch food with her because she has serious digestive issues with that.

I'm sorry to hear Kenzie is having an issue! Unexplained weight loss can be caused by a number of things including, but not limited to, kidney or liver disease, heart disease, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, and unfortunately, cancer. Without a physical examination it's impossible to say what is causing Kenzie to lose weight. I recommend having Kenzie examined by a veterinarian soon. She may need blood work or X-rays to determine what is going on with her. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and I am hoping for a good outcome for Kenzie!
