My dog is throwing up foul-smelling puke with diarrhea. Obstruction?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 4 years and 4 months old | 70 lbs

My dog has begun to throw up and his puke smells just like dog poop. He also has some very mushy bowel when he uses the bathroom. He’s urinated frequently. He’s thrown up 3 times now and it’s a few bits of dog food and brown liquid but the smell of bowel is so strong. He is acting fine now. I was told by our local vet to keep him from drinking and eating for 24 hours to empty his system but I have seen on a few sites that it could be a bowel obstruction. Should I just let his system empty?

It sounds as Meek is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material causing an obstruction (especially due to the fact that the vomit smells like poo). i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
