My dog has a bleeding lump on her paw. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 16 lbs

Two days ago, when we were in the dog park, I found some blood stain on Coco's stomach. I checked her and found out that the blood came from a little bit upper paw of her right front leg, like between draw claw and paw. I'm not sure but It looks like bleeding from a kind of boil. The bleed is stopped when she is at home or regular walk, but as soon as she runs, it bleeds again. Shall I take her to the vet?

Poor girl. Yes I would recommend taking her to the vet for this bleeding mass. Often times masses on young dogs are histiocytomas (benign tumors) and can spontaneously regress within 2-4 weeks. However getting this cleaned properly and a short course of anti-inflammatory medication, antibiotics and a temporary bandage are likely needed to help manage this wound in the meantime. Best wishes at the vet and I hope Coco Chanel gets this resolved soon. Take care.
