My indoor cat licked his tummy bald with red marks. What's causing it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 2 years and 6 months old | 11 lbs

My indoor cat has suddenly chewed/licked off all the fur on one side of his tummy. It's got some red marks in it and has showed up in the past 2 days. I'm not sure what caused this. He has no history of any skin problems and i checked his neck, back, and tail area for fleas and found nothing but a couple of skin flakes. He is Siamese.

Since Mao Mao has been licking repeatedly in only one particular area, I tend to think she was probably exposed to something there that caused some localized irritation. The area doesn't look severely inflamed or infected, so this is good news. However, continued licking of the region may ultimately result in this. I would recommend obtaining a cone / e-collar from a pet store or veterinarian and placing it on Mao Mao to prevent further self-mutilation. I would also recommend visiting with your vet to obtain medication to help with the itchiness / discomfort. If this is not an option, you may be able to utilize something like benadryl to soothe the problem. Hope this makes sense.
