My dog has a gum lump and eating less. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 100 lbs

I noticed a lump on my golden retriever's gums. He has had a decreased appetite, but is happy and active otherwise. Should we see our veterinarian

Hi, While I can’t say with certainty without an exam, I would strongly recommend having this gingival mass evaluated by a veterinarian. In many cases these are benign gingival hyperplasia (just meaning excessive tissue), but other times these masses can be malignant cancer. Therefore, catching it early will make a difference in the potential success of treatment. I hope Kosmo just has some hyper plastic gum tissue! Best of luck.
