My cocker spaniel's cloudy, bloodshot eye keeps returning after drops?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 8 years and 11 months old | 38 lbs

My cocker spaniels eye gets cloudy and the white area gets very bloodshot. We’ve been to the vet twice with her and received drops but after the 7 days of drops it seems to come back. The drops never completely solved the issue but did seem to help a bit. The drops are pred forte prednisolone acetate

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can’t say for sure from the pictures but it looks like there may be a defect on her cornea. I would stop the medication and get her back to the vet in the morning so they can stain the eye to look for a new problem. If it’s not a problem with the cornea, they need to check tear production (even if her eye is watering) and check the pressure of the globe. The vet should be able to check all of this in the morning. Good luck and kisses to Sophie!
