My dog had diarrhea, now no BMs. Is no stool normal after bland diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cockapoo | Male | neutered | 10 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

10 year old cockapoo with diarrhea x 3 days after a stressful road trip and no diet changes. Bland diet of chicken and rice started on the second day. No diarrhea for 24 hours now (no bowel movements at all) and no changes in mood/behavior throughout the colitis. He normally has about 3 solid bowel movements per day. Is it normal for him to go all day without a BM after a few days of diarrhea? No signs of dehydration, fever, or lethargy.

Yes, this can be normal after extended episodes of diarrhea. The bland diet is highly digestible and will produce less stool than the regular diet. Once the stool is normal and the slow transition to his regular diet progresses, you should see his bathroom habits return to normal.
