Dog bit kitten's ear, now it clicks. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 2 days old | 4 lbs

My dog bit my kittens ear (The dog the had food aggression) My kittens ear has very minimal bleeding but it makes a loud clicking sound everytime she shakes her head. I am afraid my dog did something to the cartilage of ber ear. The kitten doesn't seem bothered by her ear. She's still affectionate, playful, vocal, and doesn't mind when I touch it. What should i do

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think it would be best to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Usually traumatic injuries like bite wounds can become worse with time if not treated appropriately. Also, sometimes the external wound is just the tip of the iceberg and there is more to it internally or locally. Dog bites can also result in infections and antibiotics are often recommended depending on how deep the wound is. Good luck!
