My Yorkie was attacked by a coyote. Puncture wounds & swelling. Vet needed?

Pet's info: Dog | Silky Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 11 lbs

I have a little Yorkie who is up to date on her rabies shot and was attacked by a coyote yesterday and now she's swelling up in the bite area she has two puncture wounds in her upper rib area. Do I take her into a vet or what should I watch for

Oh no, poor Hailey! I'm so sorry she was attacked by a coyote. This is a medical emergency, and she has to see a vet now. Coyotes have very strong bites, and she could have internal damage from the attack. This will also be very painful for her. Given that she is up to date on her rabies vaccine, I'm not concerned about that but I am concerned about internal injuries and pain. She needs veterinary care now, please take her into vet right away.

    You absolutely should take Hailey to your vet right away or any one that is open right now. There is a small concern for Rabies even after being vaccinated; but even more than that there is a good chance this area is infected already. She needs to have this wound properly flushed and antiseptically cleaned first and then placed on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication. I hope Hailey is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Best wishes and take care.
