My dog has scabs & hair loss near tail after fleas. What to do?

Question

He had fleas but I got rid of them all and he has been constantly itching the area above his tail and it has scabs and a lot of the hair is gone so the area is very red and irritated. Plus his mood is totally different he just runs and hides. I would just like to know what to do and how to treat him. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 65 lbs

Hi and thanks for posting! The area by Jax's tail looks red, inflamed, and infected looking. Sometimes when an area is infected, it can itch. I would recommend Jax see his veterinarian so he can get on some antibiotics. Until you can take Jax to his vet, I would recommend keeping the area clean with mild soap and water or a mild cleansing wipe a few times daily. I'd also recommend keeping Jax on a monthly flea preventative as fleas can come back even after a flea treatment and it only takes one flea to cause a severe flea allergy.
