Can hot peppers harm parrots if I handled them before feeding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male

Hello, I just want to get something off my chest, my parrot died after 15 years old, I used to open up sunflower seeds for him and did it the day before he passed, I was working with hot peppers previously but Im aware that birds don't react to capsaicin I just want a professional reply that this did not affect him

Hello. I am so very sorry for the loss of Willy. Thank you for reaching out and asking your question. You should know that the hot peppers had nothing to do with his passing and you’re correct that parrots are not affected by capsaicin as are other animals. If you have more questions regarding Willy’s health and passing, or if you would like to discuss anything else, please don’t hesitate to request a consult. Again, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you can find some comfort in the good memories you have of your long, 15 year friendship. Take care.
