Is it normal for my puppy to have one eye larger than the other?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 months and 1 day old | 10.6 lbs

My puppy’s right eye is looking slightly larger than her left to me. I’m not sure if it’s just my imagination or if it’s something I should be concerned about.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think the right eye looks slightly larger than the left eye because of the pigmentation of the left eye. I do not think there is anything wrong with her eye at least based on these pictures. However, I do think that she is seriously adorable! If she develops any discharge, redness or excessive blinking, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. Otherwise, she is likely going to be ok. Good luck and have a good night!

From the picture, it looks normal, but obviously without seeing it in person, I cannot say for sure. Dogs can have variations of the iris. If you want to make sure it is okay, I would have your vet take a look at it in person. If she isn't squinting it and there is not discharge, I wouldn't be too concerned. I hope this helps!
